Olympic Figure Skating Redux

So last night I took my daughter to Stars on Ice the Canadian edition. I know we probably shouldn't support that organization after the whole Johnny Weir debacle, but my daughter had sent me the link on Facebook. I didn't tell her I bought tickets until this week so she was surprised. Most of the Olympic athletes were there and several world and Canadian champions from past years. You really have no clue how fast they spin or how quickly they can move and cover the ice until you see it live. We were in about row 8 in the corner so had a pretty good view. The pictures aren't great but for no flash and using our little Kodak camera they turned out pretty well. And seeing my normally reserved "too cool" teen cheering and excited about seeing the athletes was worth it. I was afraid we'd be late as the arena is in a residential area and it took us 10 minutes to go 1.5 blocks. Arrggh. I was going crazy but we made it with 10 min. to spare. So that was our exciting Saturday night out. Unfortunately the Senators lost the hockey game in in overtime just as we got home so we are out of the play-offs. The kid is delighted as she's a Pittsburgh fan, I am meh. :-) Have a great Sunday everyone.

You got really good pictures for not being able to use a flash!

They did turn out not bad. Of course there are tons that are just a blur due to speed or thanks to the lights shining on the ice just white spots, but some worked pretty well.

I swear the audience was 80% women/girls. LOL

Wow, great pics. I'm impressed.

It sounds like you had a great time. Much better than me who was at a dull meeting in London and then on a train home until late.

Definitely more fun than that Jen.

That flap over Johnny Weir did stick in my craw, but I'm glad you and Darling Daughter had a good time. I have fond memories of going to the Ice Capades (I think that's what they were called) when I was a kid.

I'd say your little Kodak did you proud hon - Those are fantastic...

I do take my sons to see some skating thingy in Wembley every year and I will admit I am so jittery and scared they are all going to fall over, just by the speed at which they move..

I agree about seeing your kid come to life - the best feeling in the world and worth the cost of what ever made it happen...

Have a great week this week..

It bugged me too KZ but I'm not sure ow closely aligned the two organizations are and to be honest, I bought the tickets before the Weir stuff hapened. It was fun to go out together though.

A few of them did fall a bit but they are used to it. ;-) The guy who skates backwards and then does a complete flip landing on is skates is pretty impressive. I always am sure they are going to drop one of the girls when they are flinging them around but it always seems to work out. :-)
