Sunday Summary

Well, I've gotten quite a bit of reading done this weekend. Should have been cleaning my house but eh, that can wait. Not sure for what, maybe hell to freeze over.

Stallion by Kôsen (No idea about pages - they seem to have an aversion to page numbers)
Josie (the blond) is about to take his revenge on Bill Tempest when he's attacked by Stallion (the one with the cute butt) because HE wants to kill Bill. This ends up getting them both captured but they manage to escape. Seems Bill killed a young girl in cold blood scarring Josie in the process and he also raped Stallion as a young boy so both are out for revenge. Stallion feels compelled to save Josie (who Bill captures and rapes) but ends up in jail for daring to enter the town. Josie sets him free and they go after Bill who shoots Josie and Stallion kills him. Josie nearly dies but Stallion commits his soul and saves him. Well, it's no Saihoshi which was how I discovered this artist whom I adore. I can live with insta-love in a fantasy setting but in a quasi-realistic setting not so much. It wasn't as good as I'd expected.

There is another two stories. One is an older story about a son looking to avenge the death of his vampire-hunter father. When he finds the vampire he learns the story behind it and ends up vampirizing (is that a word?) himself so that he can pursue the vampire further. The third is kind of a horror story about a young boy whose stuffed bear from his childhood wants him for himself. An older boy who has been following his story makes a deal with the demon, that if he can have the boy just once he'll go away. The boy agrees (since he's already been smexin' with the other guy) and then when it's over you see the demon's eyes glinting in the older boy's eyes. Ooooohhh. Meh. I didn't like the artwork and as I said, if they were younger than I expect then ick.

This is a yaoi that you read like a Western book. Maybe because it's written by people in Spain? Not sure. Also found out that Kôsen is actually two women.

No Souvenirs by K.A. Mitchell (142 pages)
This is Dr. Jae Sun Kim's story. He's depressed he didn't get a fellowship and makes an impulse decision to go on a vacation to Belize for diving. He's forced to bunk with the dive instructor Shane but figures he'll make the most of it and have some vacation sex. He and Shane get abandoned during a night dive and Shane is stung by a man 'o war. Jae Sun manages to keep him alive but he nearly dies. After his recovery he goes to see Jae Sun in Florida and more or less moves in. They have hot sex but Jae Sun is the worst communicator ever. Shane gets a job and commits to settling down but when he thinks Jae Sun is leaving without talking to him they have a little falling out and Jae Sun is forced to reveal more of his past and why he is like he is. Jae Sun made me a bit crazy, yeah he had issues but for a smart man he was stupid. I related more to Shane especially when he was talking about Joey fighting with Aaron and Joey thought it was no big deal and Shane thought "Shane didn't get why anyone wanted to stick around to keep doing that." Yep, that's me. I could completely sympathise with Shane's frustration but on the whole I enjoyed it. I know some people thought there was too much technical medical jargon but it didn't bother me as it was just part of the weird way Jae Sun thought about things. Diving in Deep is still may favourite in this trilogy but I know many prefer Collision Course which was also good, but I still like Cam and Noah best.

Catch Me if You Can by LB Gregg (128 pages)

Caesar works for an art gallery is managing an opening party. His ex shows up and he totally freaks, the party gets completely out of control and he meets a strange cop who is asking him questions. The next day he finds out one of the sculptures has been stolen. He freaks out and talks to his boss who tells him something was stolen from him as well and his ex (who is now pretending to be straight for his acting career) gets a video of him giving a blow job demanding money. Seems everyone is being blackmailed for something. Caesar find out the cop Dan is not a cop but a PI hired because someone thought he was the blackmailer. Once they determine it's not him, the team up to try and find out whose behind it without having to involve the cops and reveal a lot of people's secrets. It's almost an epic farce. Caesar is constantly going in circles, trying to figure things out without revealing anything and Dan keeps managing to drag him into things despite his better judgement. It was really very funny and I have to admit that there were so many potential blackmailers that I really kept thinking "Oh, it's X" and then a little piece of information would be thrown out and I'd think "No, it's definitely Y". I was pretty sure by the reveal but she really kept me guess because there were so many suspects. Peter's boss has a clown obsession and the best line that had me giggling "Screw him and the little clown car he rode in on." So if you are looking for a fun read with a humorous mystery, I highly recommend it.

Oh, I could relate to Jae Sun all too well re: the communication stuff. :)

I'm definitely looking forward to the next Romano & Albright book.

And... if Stallion's something you're adding to the rotation, no need to add me. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot that, it will be on the yaoi world tour. I'll add it to the spreadsheet tomorrow. I'll leave you off.

Well, there's not wanting to communicate and then being an asshole about not communicating. LOL

Ah, being defensive about not communicating I understood all too well!

Love your Hottie of the Day!!

I'm looking forward to reading KA and LB's books. They both sound like good entertaining books.

I loved both No Souvenirs and Catch Me... And really, I didn't find the jargon off-putting in No Souvenirs. I agree with you that it was the way Jae Sun's mind worked. Very technical, stoic, removed. It wasn't like there were paragraphs of it. I did like Collision Course best, but of the three this comes in a close second.

I am looking forward to the next Romano and Albright story, mostly to see where this goes. While I enjoyed it, I'd have to say I like the Men of Smithfield better!

Reading is a much better activity than cleaning!

His hair is a little wild Lily but he's cute. They were both good books. I've had some good reads lately, I think you'll enjoy them.

Thanks Cecile. Cleaning can always wait, that's my motto. :-)

Yea mine too... I mean really.. you dust and it comes back... you sweep/mop/vacuum and it all comes back... I mean do I keep up with my floors... but please... it sucks! I will keep a tidy, straighten house.. just do not disturb my dust! =)
We made an agreement... I do not clean you... you stay right where you are and stop collecting!

I'm not sure why I didn't like Collision Course as much Wren. I think I found Joey kind of annoying and manipulative. (which he admitted to LOL)

I'm not sure which I liked better, I really liked the last Men of Smithfield, but I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

" "Screw him and the little clown car he rode in on." Ha, ha, very memorable! Not sure about Stallion but the other two sound great.

I really liked No Souvenirs a great deal - more than Diving in Deep but not as much as Collision Course. I also liked the way that Kim's mind worked. He may have been an arrogant arse at times but I was expecting that from how he was in CC.

Catch me if you can is on my TBR pile and I'm looking forward to that.

As for the Yaoi, well I shall see how I feel once I've read it :).

Val: I was very disappointed in Stallion. The artwork was still lovely but on the whole, only getting 1/3 of the book in story. Eh.

The other two are worth the read though. The joy of yaoi is it doesn't take much time out of your day to read. LOL

I always feel I'm the odd man out with Diving in Deep Jen. Ah well. I'm special. LOL

I think you'll enjoy the other and Stallion was "okay". Better than some I've read that's for sure.

I have to go look at my stash....

LB just keeps getting better and better with every book...

There might have been an earlier version of Stallion. I'm not sure, it is older. Well, a couple of years.

It was a good reading weekend.
