My new policy
Although, I suppose you should have an old policy before you have a new policy. Whatever, just go with it here.
Ever since I started this blog I have basically reviewed every book I've read. Yes, really. They aren't long reviews, although they've gotten longer since the beginning, but I have. I'm finding it pretty grueling sometimes now, especially with Brief Encounters where I actually have to do things on a schedule and I have the special projects I always seem to be coming up with that take more time than I always predict.
So, no, I'm not disappearing, but from now on I'll only be reviewing books I promised someone I would, that I receive from a publisher with the understanding that I'll review them (mostly Torquere), or books that I REALLY want to share (4+ stars). I will continue to place everything on Goodreads and I will do a quick paragraph in the review section when I post, I'm not a fan of just slapping 3 stars on and not at least explaining why in a few sentences.
I'll continue to post sexy boys, random stuff about my life, my travels and the usual miscellaneous chatter. If you want to follow me on Goodreads and see everything I post, I'm Tam Ames there and you can see my avatar is always the same so you'll know it's me.
The end result? Fewer reviews (no longer 3 per post or so), but otherwise, not much will change. So far this year I've read about 30,000 pages and it gets tough sometimes to keep up.
So there you have it. And to thank you for your kind attention to this new policy change here at Chez Tam, here's a few cookies for a late night snack for you.

Oh, that first guy is nice... were you saying something, Tam? ;)
I completely understand, actually - there's a reason my reviewettes are, well, reveiwettes. :D
Ah, distraction. It's a wonderful thing. :-)
I have about 8 books waiting in the wings that I've read, and the idea of doing reviews for them is just overwhelming and underwhelming I suppose. So I'm hoping this makes me feel a bit less pressure. We'll see.
But you should definitely write at least a sentence or two, just for yourself. I go back to books I read before I started doing that, and it's maddening to not have SOMETHING.
I'll likely put them in GR this week, when I know I only have to write a couple of sentences vs something coherent it seems easier.
Wow that's a very attractive older man there. Yum.
I honestly don't know how you keep up with everything in blogworld and have a full time job. I'm in awe, really. I know what you mean about have an overwhelming list of books to review. I have several on my list for my own blog and I'm not even getting any time to read them let alone review *sigh*.
BER is definitely my main commitment though and I love how I can read the shorts for that quickly :).
Well, it helps when you basically have a self-sufficient kid and nothing much else to do. Plus I can get on-line at work, however blogger no longer supports IE at work so I can't do any posts. Oh well.
I do get the reading done, just the idea of writing something up is kind of "blah" even though I can be as freestyle as I like. I think just doing the odd one except for a short blurb at GR will help. We'll see.
Sounds like a sensible policy to me! Lukewarm reviews aren't terribly rewarding for anyone involved, are they? Much better to stick to writing longer reviews for the ones where you really have something to say :)
Exactly Jo. It gets a bit tough to write "it was okay" over and over. Lord knows I could use a couple of A+ books at BER. Sigh.
Reviewing takes so much time. I'd rather you use that time putting up pictures of hot guys instead!!
I see your priorities are straight Talita. LOL
Every book? Wow - that's amazing. I guess I tell a bit about every book but you've done quite a bit more than that over the years - I'm thoroughly impressed! :)
I like the new policy even if you didn't have an old one. :)
It just kind of grew and grew and I got kind of OCD about it. Now it's time to let it go. Whew. I'll still record them and my thoughts, just not all of them formally here. Less pressure.
Always happy to hear anything from you, hon, and you're right to remember it's *your* blog and *your* call. Sez Ms Flaky over here :):).
Thanks Clare. :-)
Seems perfectly logical to me. Less pressure is never a bad thing. Actually, I was always amazed about how you did manage to review everything you read.
Great pictures!
Your new policy is completely understandable. When something you've enjoyed doing becomes a chore, it's time to cut back before you completely burn out. I've taken a liking to that little post to blog feature at Goodreads. I use it when I'm being lazy, not that I really write long reviews. I'm good to get a sentence out most of the time. :)
Yeah, maybe I need a break. I've suddenly become obsesses with organizing my e-book files, renaming them all with author and title and series if it applies. Sigh. Seems like a procrastination technique but needs to be done.
Given that it's your blog, it seems to me you can do whatever you like :)
I'm finding it hard to keep up with the reviews, the blogs I follow, Twitter (OMG esp. Twitter!), Facebook and my own blog, so I don't blame you.
Love the new look! If I was reviewing every book I read, it would definitely take some of the fun out of reading - especially if I read as much as you : ).
It was getting a bit much Michelle. After 2.5 years I needed to ease up on this blog anyway.
