It's Vacation Time ... Again!

So my daughter and I are off on our summer vacation tomorrow morning bright and early. We are going to New England and then down to New York and Philadelphia. Lots of driving but not as much as last year when we went to North Carolina.

We are heading for Maine tomorrow. Right were it connects to Massachusetts. We are staying with one of my internet Puntabufriends, although he has to work most of the weekend so his husband gets to host us. Eeek. Sorry about that David. Oh well, we'll be busy doing touristy things. They have a couple of sheep and alpacas so Kristen is looking forward to hanging with the animals.

Then we are heading to Boston for a couple of days. And we'll be going to the Cirque du Soleil show Ovo there. These are some pics I grabbed on-line. Seems to involve gigantic kiwi, who doesn't love kiwi?, and some very bendy people. Look at the leg on the girl (I think) on the left. Can you say ouch? I'm looking forward to the show.

Then we are going to stop briefly at Cape Cod and in Rhode Island where I'm going to connect with another on-line friend for dinner. Friday we are off to the ever popular Long Island for the Puntabulous Pool Party. I hope we have nice pool weather. I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends again in person and finally getting the chance to give real hugs rather than virtual to a few. Michelle and her husband are flying all the way in from San Diego for the party, wish all the west coasters could come, but that's not feasible I know. They'll be with us in spirit I'm sure.

And of course no pool party is completely without these.

We are then going to stay in New York City (likely in the suburbs and commute) for a few days and I plan to get together with another m/m reader from Good Reads for coffee or a drink. We have no big plans for New York. We're going to play it by ear. We've been twice before so no need to hit the typical tourist spots, but there are some restaurants we want to try and we'll see about getting tickets for a show.

Our final stop will be Philadelphia. Not sure what we'll do there. I'm completely unfamiliar with the city so again we'll see what appeals when we arrive and get some tourist info.

And finally the seven hour drive back home, which will not be that bad.

Of course I'll be on-line from time to time because we do NOT get hotels without internet. LOL But obviously during the day we'll be out and about, being tourists and spending time with friends. I have a couple of posts set to come and I'll pop in with some updates and pictures of the trip when I can. So see ya later.

Oh and we haven't started packing yet. Eeek. Plenty of time right? I have the pet sitter arranged, brand spanking new passports and money so I'm good. Won't take long to throw some clothes in the suitcase. At least I'm telling myself that. :-)

Wow, what a fabulous trip. I've been to New England - once on a tour round Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire and the second time Connecticut and Newport, Rhode Island. Both times were just fabulous in terms of scenery and food! I've stayed in Boston twice too and just love the city.

Enjoy yourself and take lots of pics so that I can be envious of you when I get back from my camping trip.

East Coast, West Coast. Blah-blah-blah. What a drag to live in flyover country.

Seriously, though, I'm envious. Again. I live in this country, for crying out loud, and don't get around it as much as you do!

I'm looking forward to it Jen. I've never been to that region but I've heard it's gorgeous. And for us landlocked folks being next to the ocean will be a real novelty.

At least my hotels have flush toilets and running hot water.LOL ;-)

Some day I'll get down the middle KZ. :-) My daughter keeps pushing for Chicago.

I spend my money on travel. I could probably have paid off half a house by now with the amount I spend, but I'd rather have had the experiences than a house. I give my money happily to a landlord and then hit the road. :-)

Oh, have fun! And you definitely need to visit the middle of the country. The deciding point for me driving to Toronto last fall was realizing that it was the same distance from Minneapolis as was Denver. Well, heck, I'd driven to Denver, no biggie, so...

It's FAR to you thought Chris. A good two days. But maybe next year. Although with the kid getting older and maybe getting a summer job I'm getting less flexibility. I'm +5 past Toronto. We shall see. One trip at a time. :-)

Well, since I'll definitely be visiting my friend in Toronto again, and I think her sister moved to Ottawa, maybe I'll make a multistage trip to visit you - especially nice since I have a friend in Michigan to stay with now. :)

If you make it to Toronto I would come and see you or you are always welcome at my place anytime. I have space ... and cats. Not long skinny cats, but a black one. :-)

Actually, Maine doesn't connect to Massachusetts, even though we used to be part of Mass. There are about 11 miles of New Hampshire separating the two. We share more border with QC and NB than with the rest of the US (one reason I think we should become another Maritime province).

Anyway, Hotel Cabezalana has free wifi and the guest room is just about ready. I scrubbed the floor on hands and knees in my underwear, just for you (well, and also so I wouldn't get my shorts wet). :-)

Sounds like a great trip, Tam! I'm a little bit envious here. ;) I love New York and hubs was in Boston last year and had a good time and wants to go together again.
Hope you and your daughter have a fabulous vacation! :D

Ooops. My geography skills are lacking Mel. And really, hands and knees is too much, especially if I'm not there to watch. :-) Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Thanks Janna. I'm looking forward to exploring some new parts of the US and going back to NYC again. You can never have too many vacations there. :-) You have fun in France too.

Sounds like a marvelous trip. I'm totally envious! Hope you guys have a great time!

Lucky you. :)

People keep on telling me 'not long to go' re: my trip to the US later in the year and asking me if I'm ready yet. O_o I know I have OCD and all, but I'm not THAT bad. Geez.

Tam said...

Thanks Lily. I'm sure I will.

LOL Packing four months in advance is a bit excessive Kris. I have laundry in now, have a couple of loads and then only have to pack our bags and load them in the car. Although I'm sure I'll think of other things, but not too bad.

Have a great trip! I'm getting ready to fly back down to visit with my sister. I'm sitting in the airport right now.

It sounds like a really great trip. I love that you haven't necessarily "planned" exactly what you're going to do. I love hitting a city and playing it by ear.

Have fun!!

Tam said...

Hope you made it safely Stephani.

I'm trying to be less rigid in my old age Tracy. LOL Sometimes it works. We made it safely to Maine, didn't get lost or anything. :-) I'm exhausted though, up before 6:00 and 8 hours driving. Early to bed for me.

Wow - great photo of Taylor Lautner and his brothers.
Can't wait to see you at the pool party. I will be the one not wearing a bathing suit. Wait, that sounds like I'll be skinny dipping. Rather, I'll be wearing clothes - not a bathing suit. Why am I still awake? Anyway, those drinks look good. I hope Patricia's orange creamsicle drink lives up to the hype : ).

Tam said...

OMG! I'll be the one wearing clothes. LOL We'll be twins. Again. :-) See you soon.
