So yesterday my daughter suggested we go to see Inception. I had no clue who was in it or what it was about. She read me he description leaving me more confused but off we headed. First, I really have trouble with the name. I want to call it Insertion, Inscription, Insemination. Sigh. I had to look it up this morning because I could not remember Inception.Leonardo Dicaprio plays a character who is on the run from the police in the US because they believe he killed his wife. What he does, is for lots of money, goes into people's dreams and get information, usually commerical information for competitors. When his most recent job goes wrong, he is approached by a Japanese man who says he can make the charges in the US go away and he can go home to his kids if he can PLANT an idea in his competitor's sons' head, rather than take information out. It's very risky but he agrees so he can go home to his kids.
He then gathers up a team to help, including his right hand man, played of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and a student of his father's, Ellen Page. She builds the dream worlds they will use. It's very complicated and I didn't really understand most of it to be honest, but not only is he being chased by the corporation who didn't get their information when he screwed up, when they finally get into the son's dream (Cillian Murphy) it seems he's been trained to resist these incursions so there are a shit load of men with guns trying to get them, along with Lenordo's dead wife from his subconscious who is trying to sabotage things and ... well, let's just say it's VERY complicated with alternating time lines, dreams within dreams, etc.
Did I enjoy it? Yes, as long as I didn't try to have it make logical sense in my mind. Just go with the flow fun. Lots of explosions, gun fights, special effects that were very cool. I did think the bad guys couldn't shoot for shit though. A machine gun and you miss the guy? Really? You're fired. The ending is left all mysterious because you're never sure what is a dream and what is reality but on the whole if you're looking for suspension of disbelief shoot-em up fun, it's an okay movie. I thought Ellen Page was very good and I was really pleased that even though she was the token girl there was no romance subplot including her. Too often the girl is added simply to give the lead a romance, but Leonardo was still hung up on his wife and there were many scenes with him and her, so that was a nice change. I'd say it would be worth seeing for mindless brain candy or if you really like Leonardo Dicaprio.

Hi, Tam! We just saw it yesterday as well. Awesome movie! Totally mind-blowing! I love how perfectly the action was balanced between the three different dream levels + the limbo place. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
I found I had a few questions about HOW they were entering the dreams, (they just slapped some thing on their wrist but was in an IV or what?), but I did enjoy the action and the acting. I thought Ellen Page was very good. I know about 5 people who saw it yesterday all over North America so must have been Inception Day. :-)
Sounds like an interesting movie. Kind of like a cross between The Matrix and The Butterfly Effect maybe? Cool review!
It was interesting. You kept wondering if what was happening was real or a dream. It's a good summer type movie.

Very good question! An IV or something electronic? You're right. We just had to assume that something was connecting the dreamers, but it wasn't at all clear what that was!
Brain candy, hmm? Sounds like an intriguing movie. I'll try to remember the title for our next movie night. :)
They did show the one Asian guy's wrist Val which I guess was supposed to explain it but maybe I missed it. But with so much happening you just had to not worry about the details and enjoy the ride.
Good luck remembering the title Janna. If you're like me you'll be searching for Insertion. LOL That could have worked as a title even if it sounds way dirtier.

That's a good point Chris and I think you're right. There was so much going on, especially during the action sequences I'm sure you could watch it several times and always catch something new each time. I enjoyed some of the special effects a great deal and I'd like to see them again.
Definately gonig to be a miss for me - Don't like Mr. Decaprio...
I like the film concept though - I wonder if it's an original film script or is it a book adaptation..

I'm not sure what the source material was EH. I'm not a huge Leonardo fan, but I think he did a good job and this sounds awful but he's getting old. LOL

I doubt I'll see this despite the pleasant eye candy of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy and, even though he's not waged well, I still have a soft spot for Leanardo DiCaprio.
But maybe i'll Netflix it. And if it's really bad, I can just watch it on mute and enjoy the scenery. :)
